How you can help Volunteering Volunteer with us and make a difference! Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Without their time, skills, and compassion, we simply couldn’t help as many animals as we do. Whether you’ve got an hour a week or a whole day to spare, there are so many ways to get involved. From walking dogs and cuddling cats to helping at events, fundraising, or even becoming a trustee, your support really does change lives. Why volunteer? Every animal that comes through our doors has their own story — and by volunteering, you become part of their journey to a brighter future. Volunteering is not only incredibly rewarding, it’s also a great way to meet like-minded people, learn new skills, and make a real impact in your community. We welcome individuals, groups, and companies, and we’ll help you find the right role to suit your interests, availability, and experience. Apply Here Frequently asked questions We know it can feel daunting to start something new, so here are some answers to common questions about volunteering with us. And if you’re still unsure about anything, just ask… we’re here to help! What training will I get? Before you start, you’ll receive health and safety, fire, and manual handling training. We’ll also make sure you’re fully supported at any events, you’ll never be left to ‘just manage’. Every event is carefully planned, and you’ll always know what’s expected of you. We truly value your time, and nothing is left to chance. What sort of role will I do? There are so many ways to help! You might find yourself: Bag packing at a supermarket Handing out leaflets on an information stand Helping at a children’s assembly Marshalling at a sponsored walk or run Running a stall at one of our dog shows, Easter Egg Hunts, or Christmas fairs. Will I work on my own? No, you’ll always be part of a team and supported by other volunteers or staff members. What if I don’t feel comfortable doing an event? That’s absolutely fine, we’ll never ask you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with. How many hours will I be expected to volunteer for? We usually ask fundraising volunteers to help with at least two events each year, but even a couple of hours makes a huge difference. You won’t be expected to commit to full days; most shifts are around two hours. What if a member of the public asks a question I can’t answer? Don’t worry! You’ll get plenty of information about both the National RSPCA and our local branch during your induction. You’ll always have a teammate nearby to help, and you’re never expected to give advice about animal welfare; instead, we direct people to the 24-hour cruelty helpline: 0300 1234 999. Do I need public liability insurance? No, if you’re volunteering at an agreed activity with our branch, you’ll be covered by our public liability insurance. Manage Cookie Preferences
