About us National and Branch National and Our Branch We are frequently asked about our role as an RSPCA branch and that of our colleagues at National RSPCA. The first thing to note is that RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District is a separately registered charity to the National RSPCA. This means that we have to raise over 95% of our own funds to run our animal centre. The second key difference is that we have a different role in caring for animals, though we work very closely with our National colleagues, particularly the Inspectors. National are responsible for rescuing animals in distress caused by injury or cruelty, and we are responsible for caring, rehabilitating and rehoming those animals that come to our centre through the Inspectors. As a branch, we are not able to rescue animals as we do not have the legal rights that National have in order for them to fulfil their role. In addition, our National colleagues are fully trained in rescuing animals and dealing with the legalities of removing an animal from a harmful situation. We work with our National colleagues to take in as many animals from their Inspectors as we can. We rehabilitate the animals brought into us by caring for both their physical and mental problems caused by the ill-treatment they have suffered so that they can move on successfully to their new forever home. Unfortunately, the level of animal abuse is high and the demand for National’s (non-government funded) rescue work is even higher. Their front line – the National Control Centre (NCC) is facing unprecedented challenges. We would encourage the public to look at the National website for advice on what to do and only call the NCC with absolute emergencies. For non-emergency situations visit their advice and welfare web pages. This will help to reduce emergency waiting times. Thank you to our supporters – individual and corporate – for caring about animals and working with us to ensure we can continue to rehome and rehabilitate animals in need. Manage Cookie Preferences
